    Tamarind Ponche

    And before we  know it, we’re about to start the new year, and it brings great purposes such as spending more time with your family. Ponche is a warm drink made with traditional tropical fruits from Mexico and other Latin American countries. There are variations of this drink in each country. It can be made with different fresh winter fruits, dry fruits and spices. This Tamarind Ponche recipe is ideal for this time of the year.

    Ingredients:

    • 1 bag Natura’s Tamarind mix 
    • 2 apples cut in half 
    • 2 pears cut in cubes 
    • 4 cinnamon sticks
    • 3 anise stars
    • 1/4 cup raw brown sugar (piloncillo)


    Directions:

    • Prepare Tamarind mix according to directions: 1 bag yields half a gallon or 8 cups of 8 oz. each)
    • In a  pot, add 2 cups of prepared tamarind, brown sugar and cinnamon. Heat over medium heat for 15 minutes stirring constantly 
    • Add the rest of the ingredients to the pot  and cook at low heat for about 40 minutes 
    • Serve warm ( you can add rum to taste)
